Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question?

Q: What if a ticket is damaged or lost, can I use another ticket that I find?
A: You will need to replace the ticket at the CBC counter in the terminal building. A ticket is paired with a vehicle license plate and/or vehicle VIN number, so you cannot use another ticket. Your vehicle license plate and/or VIN will be verified through multiple checkpoints in the border.

Q: What is the self-help kiosk in the terminal building used for?
A: You can scan your ticket to determine where you are in the process and which Government agency you still need to visit to process relevant documentation.

Q: What if I get to the exit gate and my ticket is not accepted?
A: You will need to determine which agency still needs to scan your ticket. A CBC employee can assist by performing a status check.
You may have to return to the terminal building to complete the process. If the system is experiencing a glitch, a boom override will be performed.
If your ticket is damaged and will not scan, you will need to get a new one at the CBC counter inside the terminal building.

Q: How do I know where my vehicle is in the process?
A: You can scan your ticket at the self-help kiosk in the terminal building, or ask any CBC employee for assistance.

Q: How will I know if I am cleared to exit the parking area?
A: There is an LED screen overlooking the parking area that will call your vehicle out by registration number when it is cleared to leave.

Q: Is the toll fee for two trips (return trip)?
A: No. It is the cost for entering the border of Zimbabwe. It is a fee for one way only.

Q: What are the payment options?
A:

  • Prepaid voucher – Can be purchased through Korridor.

  • Credit card – Local and non-local credit cards are accepted.

  • Cash payment – Processed inside the terminal building (you will need to queue).

  • EcoCash – Available for local vehicles (excluding commercial vehicles).

Currency Notes:

  • All freight facility vehicles must pay in USD only.

  • Commercial vehicles can pay in ZAR or USD.

  • Foreign vehicles (registered outside Zimbabwe, excluding commercial) can pay in ZAR or USD (ZIG is not accepted).

  • Zimbabwean registered vehicles (non-commercial) may pay in ZIG, ZAR, or USD.

Q: Payments and refunds?
A:

  • Ensure your coupon is scanned at all agencies – use the self-help tablet inside the terminal building before going to your vehicle.

  • Avoid paying twice for the same vehicle, especially if managing a fleet.

  • Pay at the correct terminal:

    • If using the freight lane, do not buy coupons at the light vehicle or bus terminal.

    • Ensure your direction is correct (e.g., don’t use a southbound coupon for a northbound trip).

  • If paid twice:

    • A CBC Cashier Supervisor can re-issue the coupon to a different vehicle’s VRN (only if unused).

    • If re-issue is not possible, submit a refund request. Note: Refunds may take up to 14 days once all required information is received.

Q: Who is Korridor?
A: Korridor is a third-party company that manages the prepaid voucher option for CBC and handles en-route expenses.
For support, visit: korridor.com/contact us
Note: Korridor only accepts USD for voucher purchases.

Q: Can the tolls be paid in local Zimbabwean currency for Zimbabwean registered trucks that do not generate USD?
A: Yes, Zimbabwean registered non-commercial vehicles can pay in ZIG, ZAR, or USD.

Q: Can I pay cash for the fee?
A: Yes. At the entry gate, inform the official that you wish to pay cash. They will issue a parking coupon, which you must present at the CBC counter inside the terminal building.

Q: Is VAT applicable to foreign registered vehicles?
A: Yes. VAT is legally required for foreign registered vehicles.

Q: Is the border access fee a flat rate or does it fluctuate with the daily exchange rate?
A: The fee is USD-based and does not fluctuate when paid in USD.
If paying in other currencies, it will be converted using the daily exchange rate published by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (excluding weekends and public holidays).
Note: ZWL payments are only allowed for non-commercial Zimbabwean registered vehicles.

Q: What if the driver wanted to pay using cash in the terminal building, but then decides to swipe instead?
A: Yes, card facilities are available in the terminal building and can be used for payment.

Q: What is the procedure if a driver needs to swap a truck due to breakdown?
A: The CBC fee applies to every vehicle crossing the border. The replacement truck must:

  • Enter the site

  • Pay the toll fee

  • Receive a new ticket
That new ticket will be used for all further processing.

Q: What if someone enters the border site and does not pay the toll fee?
A: The system will detect unpaid status at any Government Agency.
The vehicle will not be able to leave the parking area until all dues are paid and approved.
The LED screen will only call out the vehicle’s registration number once the process is fully completed.

Q: What if I have a prepaid voucher and it does not reflect on the system?
A: The driver will be issued a parking coupon. If the voucher still doesn’t reflect, the driver must query the payment at the CBC counter inside the terminal building.

Q: What if the boom does not open automatically at the entry gate?
A: There are officials within the entry booths who can override entry booms if necessary, with supervisor authentication. This process is carefully audited to maintain system integrity.

Q: What if the vehicle does not have a registration plate?
A: If the vehicle has no registration plate, the vehicle ownership papers must be presented at the entry gate.
The cashier will manually input the vehicle’s VIN number into the system.

Q: What if the vehicle has a temporary registration plate?
A: If the vehicle has a temporary registration plate:

  • Vehicle papers must be handed to the entry gate cashier.

  • The cashier will manually enter the temporary registration plate into the system.

If a new permanent plate is later issued, a re-issue of the paid access coupon must be done to reflect the updated Vehicle Registration Number (VRN).
This can be done inside the terminal building at the CBC counter by a CBC supervisor.

Q: Will there only be one entry and one exit gate?
A: Yes. There is only one entry and one exit gate per lane and per direction.
Freight vehicles use their own separate entry and exit gates.
There is also space available for vehicles to turn around at the entry or exit gates if they are not permitted to proceed further.

Q: Will there be a gate for abnormal trucks only?
A: Yes, there is a dedicated entry lane for abnormal trucks.

Q: Can the process be done while the driver is on the way, or only once they arrive at the border?
A: A runner can assist with pre-clearance at both the bus and freight terminals.
However, the ticket must still be scanned at each Government agency on the day the vehicle physically crosses the border.
All load processing through ZIMRA and other agencies can continue to be done online, as currently practiced.

Q: Will there be parking agents to ensure that trucks are parked correctly, allowing other vehicles not to be blocked in?
